During the 2008 Federal election campaign my riding Don Valley West was a key battleground for the fight on recognizing foreign credentials. Although my candidate lost I learned a lot from going door to door. The pain and frustrations shown by people with obvious skills able to help Canada in it's time of need and yet unable to procede with their skill because both establishment parties don't see fit to fix this problem.
I understand that Canadian companies and organizations want the full teaching mechanism to be enforced on new Canadians before they are able to work in their field, but eight years to learn the Canadian ethics and laws and standards is quite rediculous at least to me it is. I also don't get how Government believes that allowing this to continue helps Canada's unemployment issue. It has been a year and yet the Canadian Parliament has yet to bring this to a vote and to that I say shame. I have also yet to hear from my member of Parliament Mr Rob Oliphant on this issue. His main argument during the campaign was for foreign credentials to be recognized and yet he has been silent in Parliament on this issue.
Although it is not a big surprise that the establishment parties in Canada have not brought this up for debate, it is a shock though that not even a wisper has been raised except for the NDP and the Bloc Quebecqois. This shameful display by the two establishment parties in Parliament not only on this issue but on others makes me ashamed to call this Government and the opposition my Government. I can only ask the readers that during the next election which is just around the corner throw the bums out and elect a non establishment party to power, only you have that right to exact change in politics, only the people have the power during elections.
This is going to be a short blog but I must also say that our thinking must change before our action does. My favourite quote from the bible is from John the Baptist who said before empires can change, men must change. It is time to legislate through foreign credentials now not later. The last example of what this legislation would achieve is this, and there are hundreds of others but this is the best in my opinion. The homeless that walk our streets obviously have no place to stay and yet new Canadians like the ones in my riding have to live in Government housing because they work as security guards and taxi drivers. If this legislation was pushed threw parliament we wouldn't have to spend money building housing we would already have it.
The homeless off the streets and those who will be benefitted by this will be in the middle class with more money to spend on the economy and thus pumping more money into Canadians wallets or investing in repairing our delapedated social housing. Killing two birds with one stone that's effective government. Thanks for reading, don't be afraid to leave a comment.
